Acting to represent, support and promote Scottish mountaineering. MCofS is the only national representative body for mountaineers in Scotland.
MCofS is a membership organisation that represents the interests of our individual members as well as around 130 member clubs. We act as the voice of Scottish mountaineering and work with a wide range of other representative bodies.
MCofS works to support mountaineers by providing a range of services, including insurance, courses, publications, advice, discounts and a wide range of other benefits. We aim to support and enable the continuing development of our network of clubs and develop individual competence, environmental awareness and self-reliance.
MCofS seeks to promote mountaineering activities to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds and to reduce barriers to participation. We also encourage all who participate in mountaineering in Scotland to do so responsibly. We aim to promote Scottish mountaineering both at home and internationally. Individual membership of MCofS is open to overseas mountaineers - please see "Join Us" section of our website for details and prices.
Our primary work areas are in Access & Conservation where we seek to safeguard our right of responsible access and protect the mountaineering environment; and Safety & Training where we aim to promote the development of safe practice in all mountaineering activities.
